Department "Technology improve durability" prepares specialists in 132 "Material", specialization - "Intelligent Systems Technology in Surface Engineering" and is one of the promising areas of training. The main scientific directions of the department are: problems of materials science; technology recovery and increase the durability of machine parts and devices using welding and related technologies or fabrication, technology development increased longevity of products, their overall quality and compliance with international standards.

Modern IT technologies include: the use of advanced IT technologies and methods. Three-dimensional modeling of processes and systems using modern CAD (Computer Aided Design) systems; design and programming equipment with numerical control systems and intelligent decision-making; using nanotechnology methods for laser, plasma, electron beam modification of materials with computerized control systems to provide world-class quality and durability of products; technological computerized system for: growing single crystals with unique properties for the problems of alternative energy (Solar Energy); creation of fuel cells based on nano; functional nanoscale coatings; for use in medicine and biotechnology.

Since 2002 the department is headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Valery Savulyak, a graduate of our university. In 2003 he defended at Specialized Academic Council of the Institute of Materials NANU doctoral thesis "Scientific basis for the formation of iron alloys metal-carbide composite layers with stable structures and increased triboengineering characteristics." In 2005 he was awarded the title of professor. It has around 186 scientific and educational works, including 4 monographs, 12 patents, 11 textbooks.

Currently, the department has six full-time teachers. 1 of them holds a degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences, 5 - a PhD degree in technical sciences. The effectiveness of the educational process and the quality of training provided by the presence of 11 scientific and educational laboratories and centers welding.
